The symbol of Toronto

What symbol of Toronto do you think is the most well-known outside of the city? The one people would think that we're most proud to support, and the one that you see someone wearing, and instantly know where they're from (or you assume at least)...

Honestly, I would have thought that the Maple Leafs logo would be the most widely known, but it seems more like a sports-fan, or 'Canadian' thing than a Torontonian thing. Same goes for the CN Tower and Skydome (Screw Rogers), it's a tourist icon no doubt, but nothing that I'd want to wear, or show off without holding a map and riding one of the 'Tour Guys' busses up and down Yonge St.

So what is it?

Our city's uniform.
It's strange - for a logo that's been out of our lives for over a decade, and sport that's far from number one in the city, the Blue Jays have done a much better job at capturing the every day Torontonian than the Leafs, Raptors, Argos, FC, or any other group you can think of. Maybe it's the flashy blue, or maybe it's the uniqueness of the logo - but no matter what it is, Blue Jays gear is more recognizable than any brand or symbol when it comes to Toronto.

When you see someone wearing Maple Leafs gear - you know that they're a hockey fan, it's almost insulting if they're not, but the royal blue of the Blue Jays has become more of a fashion statement - a flag that Torontonians can wear.

Drew Doughty wears a Blue Jays cap almost religiously,
try finding a photo of him without one. I wouldn't be
surprised if he wears one under his hockey helmet...

We feel a sense of pride when we see someone
wearing one - and it's not a "Go Blue Jays!" kind
of pride; it's a "F*** yeah Toronto!" kind of
pride.
For some reason I can't describe, the Blue Jays have found their niche (at least in terms of their merch), and it is as the unofficial identifier of being and/or loving Toronto. But hey...I'm not complaining, it makes the $20.00 on this baby all the more worthwhile!

Cheers
